Searching for a new job can be tough. Your days become a seemingly endless cycle of filling out applications, writing resumes, networking, and interviewing. The longer you’re away from work, the harder it can be to keep going.
The good news is that the odds are in your favor. Demand for healthcare professionals continue to stay high, however, looking for a job is no easy feat. Here’s how to stand out and stay positive in order to land one of those positions:
- Show pride in your qualifications. Has anyone in your past told you not to “toot your own horn”? Ignore them – at least when it comes to job seeking. The employers you contact want to know what you can do to bring value to their practice, and the only way they’ll find out is if you tell them. Create a list of your three to five proudest accomplishments, both inside and outside the facility. Use these as the foundation for your interview answers. Your enthusiasm will show through, and you’ll be presenting your best work, giving you an added confidence boost.
- Trust your network. The longer your job search goes on, the tougher it can be to face friends and family members who are cheering for you to find work. But isolating yourself from your personal and professional networks is a sure way to increase the negativity and loneliness of the hunt. Instead, reach out. Contact at least one person you haven’t spoken to in a while and meet up for coffee or lunch. While there, talk about what you’re looking for and what you’d really like to do – not how hard it is to find. Repeat at least once per week – you never know who’s heard of the position that is just right for you.
- Ask for a healthcare recruiter’s help. A staffing firm that specializes in your industry and location can connect you with hidden job opportunities and help you stay positive until you’re positively hired.
